About Karl’s Emails. . .
Scott Horton of Harper's

....When technical experts explained how it was virtually impossible
for emails to “disappear” short of some very radical, and
incriminating, operations on the servers, the White House changed
its tune. We were told that the earlier statements were mistaken, that
some of them were actually on a server operated by the Republican
National Committee, and that all of them were protected by Executive
Privilege, so they couldn’t be turned over. This is the most expansive
Executive Privilege theory ever offered up by the White House.

...The emails are not only relevant to the U.S. attorneys investigation,
but also to overtly political prosecutions, such as the Rove-directed
prosecution of former Alabama Governor Don E. Siegelman. The
Bush Administration’s efforts to hide or destroy these emails continue
to make for thoroughly Washingtonian tragicomedy.

White House Ordered to Keep E-Mails
by Peter Baker of the Washington Post

A federal judge ordered the White House yesterday not to destroy
any backup computer tapes of its e-mail, pending civil litigation
seeking to learn more about what happened to a trove of messages
missing from a 2 1/2 -year period earlier in the Bush presidency.

The Bush administration had opposed such an order, arguing that it
is unnecessary because the White House administrative office
already is preserving backup tapes in its possession. But U.S. District
Judge Henry H. Kennedy Jr. was not satisfied by that assurance and
issued the formal order, which carries contempt penalties if violated.

Alabama Conservation Department Launders
Two Million Dollar Payment to Man who
testified against Don Siegelman
by  Robbie Scott Hill, J.D. of Novationeering

Mark Pugh and CDG Engineering of Andalusia received a $2 million
dollar contract from the Alabama Conservation Department for
purported consulting services that they can’t document.  The
contract is stuck in the Legislative Contract Review Committee where
it is being scrutinized by Senator Roger Bedford and Representative
Alvin Holmes.

Could it be true that Troy King and Bob Riley were using a public
contract to pay off Mark Pugh for his prior testimony against Don
Siegelman? Now that is the classic definition of quid pro quo.
