Siegelman on "60 Minutes", Part 2
by StevensonBlog of Tuscaloosa News

Some of those in Alabama who have been cooperating with the CBS
crew said they thought the report would air this month, but now it
looks like it will be on some time in January.

..... Abrams had "firmly committed to do another show immediately
following the '60 Minutes' piece. Definite momentum."

The "only downside is that in the midst of this, Don is nearing his
sixth month in prison. The 11th circuit asked [U.S. presiding Judge
Mark] Fuller to give a reason for the incarceration [rather than grant
bail pending appeal] expeditiously and today is the 33rd day since
they made the request.

"Also, Fuller is responsible for the transcript and you know how that
is going," he added, referring to the transcript of the trial that more
than a year and a half after the trial still has not been produced.

Young made deals and now gets one
Tuscaloosa News

....From the looks of it, Young had a sweetheart deal of his own with
the feds. He was sentenced originally to two years in prison. But
prosecutors recommended that he be released after only 11 months
because he had been harassed while in prison and because he tried
to complete a substance abuse program.

............................................................................................................Justice
Department takes oversight of Goff case away from
Montgomery prosecutors
By Bob Gambacurta of the Montgomery Independent

The United States Department of Justice has informed attorneys for
Montgomery insurance executive John W. Goff that an office at Main
Justice in Washington will oversee the federal grand jury
investigation into insurance fraud allegations against Goff...

In a letter dated December 12, 2007, Associate Deputy Attorney
General David Margolis says it will be up to Main Justice "to provide
oversight of the decision whether to prosecute this matter."
