Eddie Curran Fires Spitballs at 60 Minutes
by Roger Schuler of Legal Schnauzer

....Throughout his letter, Curran admonishes 60 Minutes for not
presenting corroborating evidence to support statements made by Jill
Simpson....

In a story written by Kim Chandler and titled "Former aide says he
OK'd phony invoices" (Birmingham News, March 5, 2006), we find this
passage:

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bailey also admitted his initial recollections to a grand jury were
incorrect. He said that, after meeting with Scrushy in 1999,
Siegelman showed him a check for $250,000 signed by
Scrushy. On the date Bailey recalled, the check hadn't been
written, and the check was from a Maryland land company, not
    signed by Scrushy.

college probe
by Phillip Rawls and Bob Johnson of AP/ Al.com

At least nine present and former legislators, including two of the
Senate's most powerful leaders, have been subpoenaed in the
federal government's probe of corruption in the two-year college
system.

Four state senators — President Pro Tem Hinton Mitchem, D-Union
Grove; Rules Chairman Lowell Barron, D-Fyffe; Judiciary Committee
Chairman Rodger Smitherman of Birmingham; and Dean of the
Senate Bobby Denton, D-Muscle Shoals — received subpoenas, their
attorney, Michel Nicrosi, said Thursday.

"We are in contact with the U.S. attorney's office and will proceed
accordingly and appropriately," she said.
