Will Karl Rove Testify?
the Verdict by Dan Abrams on MSNBC

Bush League Justice: Monday was the last day for former Bush
advisor Karl Rove to agree to voluntarily testify about the prosecution
of former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman. Dan is joined by Siegelman
to talk about a case that some say is politically motivated.

Rove Offers To Answer Siegelman Queries
In Writing
by Ben Evans Associated Press

Former White House adviser Karl Rove has offered to answer
questions in writing about allegations that he pushed the Justice
Department to prosecute former Gov. Don Siegelman.

But Rove's attorney said Friday that Rove is standing by his refusal to
testify under oath. And it was unclear if written responses would be
enough to fend off a subpoena from the House Judiciary Committee,
which is investigating the matter.

The committee had set a Monday deadline for Rove to agree to
testify. Rove had previously offered to discuss the Siegelman case
privately, without a transcript and not under oath. But the committee
balked.

The White House, citing executive privilege, has fought congressional
demands for such testimony, saying it has no obligation to provide
lawmakers with details of internal staff deliberations.

Threatens Subpoenas for DoJ Selective Prosecution
Documents
by By Paul Kiel of TPM

....Since that time, the Department has refused to turn over all but a
few documents -- though one of the produced emails showed a DoJ
official troubled by one of the cases, the Georgia Thompson
prosecution (the other two cases are ex-Gov. Don Siegelman (D-AL)
and Cyril Wecht). And in a letter on Friday, Conyers warned Attorney
General Michael Mukasey that if the Department did not take notice,
"we will have little choice but to consider the compulsory process."
You can see that letter here.

Conyers included in his letter a three-page chart of requests (pdf)
made by the committee that have gone unanswered by the
Department. "We very much that the pending requests can be
resolved voluntarily," he writes.
