1. More Allegations of Misconduct in
Alabama Governor Case
by Adam Zagorin for Time/CNN

Next month in Atlanta, a federal court will hear the high-profile appeal
of former Alabama governor Don E. Siegelman, whose conviction on
corruption charges in 2006 became one of the most publicly debated
cases to emerge from eight years of controversy at the Bush Justice
Department. Now new documents highlight alleged misconduct by the
Bush-appointed U.S. attorney and other prosecutors in the case,
including what appears to be extensive and unusual contact between
the prosecution and the jury....

2. Siegelman: New Revelations "More
Frightening Than Anything That Came
Before."
By Zachary Roth for TPMMuckraker

....Siegelman continued: "If what [the whistleblower] says is true, it's
one issue. But the fact that it was never disclosed to the defense or
the judge, and then was covered up by DOJ, is a crime, even if what
she said wasn't true."

He added: "At every stage of this investigation, either by lawyers or
the House Judiciary Committee, DOJ has refused to turn over
documents" or otherwise cooperate.

3. Explosive New Story Lends Credence to
Siegelman Appeal
by Glynn Wilson of Locust Fork Journal

...And from what Time is reporting from a new whistle-blower to
emerge and a new letter from John Conyers, the Michigan Democrat
who chairs the powerful House Judiciary Committee, there is a faction
in Washington who are planning on probing the “dark side” of the
Bush administration after the president leaves office. Other stories of
late have hinted that there are some in the Obama camp who might
be looking to “turn the other cheek” and not look back at Bush and
Karl Rove.

4. Error In Justice: Siegelman Prosecutors
Received Notes From Jurors DURING
Deliberations
By Christy Hardin Smith for Firedog Lake

The Siegelman case has been rife with appalling and politicized
conduct.  But it gets worse. Much, much worse.

The USAtty, Leura Canary, supposedly recused herself from the case
due to substantial conflicts of interest involving her husband, a GOP
political strategist running the political campaign for Siegelman's
gubernatorial rival.  In subsequent emails (PDF), Canary specifically
gives directives and strategy to the AUSAs in her office handling -- on
multiple occasions.

5. Dirty Little Secrets about Juror Contacts in
the Don Siegelman Trial
by David Fiderer for Huffington Post

....As reported here last July, Judge Mark Fuller took a variety of
unethical steps to prevent the defendants, or anyone else, from
reviewing the evidence of jury tampering. The additional information
reported in Time shows how the Justice Department in Washington, in
addition to Judge Fuller, refused to examine evidence of illicit juror
contacts. Along with the other revelations, it suggests that the rot
within the Justice Department runs very, very deep.

6. What the Justice Department is Hiding
Scott Horton for the Daily Beast

The most dramatic political prosecution in the 21st century—involving
a former governor in Alabama, the U.S. Attorney’s office, and the
Bush White House and Justice Department—has been rocked by
incriminating new disclosures by a knowledgeable career Justice
Department staff member who has provided information charging
serious misconduct by the prosecutors.

Among other disclosures shattering the credibility of the case, U.S.
Attorney Leura Canary’s “recusal” for conflict of interest is revealed
as a sham. Moreover, The Daily Beast has learned, the matter has
touched off concerns within the Justice Department over efforts to
sweep accusations of unethical conduct under the carpet.
