Article: Karl Rove's Dirty Tricks in Alabama
by Lou Dubose of Washington Spectator
Mayberry GOP—The 2002 Alabama gubernatorial election
included the plot elements of a bad Southern Gothic: a Klan rally
in the backwoods; a political operative stealing the opposition's
signs and planting them at the rally; a lawyer stalking and
photographing the operative; incriminating photos used to extort
a political candidate; and a cabal of lawyers maneuvering a man
into the courtroom of a judge who promised to "hang" the
defendant. There was even a prosecutor "messing up" the case
to see that the defendant made it to the gallows.

Nothing About the Prosecution of Don
Siegelman Escapes the Taint of
Corruption
by David Fiderer for Huffington Post
Siegelman's prosecution is a scandal that extends
into the judicial branch. The legal issues before the 11th
Circuit are the tip of a large iceberg. Louis Franklin's falsehoods
are more indicative of the scope of the scandal, which extends
well beyond the persecution of one politician. Throughout the
Siegelman case, at every step in the process, we see how
government officials worked in tandem to rig the outcome. You
name it, they did it. Sometimes the incriminating evidence
against the government is airtight, such as the documents
proving that the prosecution lied, concealed evidence, and
violated Justice Department rules. For some misconduct -
threatening witnesses, deceiving defense counsel - the
evidence involves one person's word contradicting another's.
And the evidence of more serious misconduct - bribing the
judge, jury tampering - is still circumstantial, but extremely
compelling.

Larisa Alexandrovna Reports on the WH
Politically Motivated Conviction of Gov.
Don Siegelman -- And Rove's Role
Interview by BuzzFlash.com
Rove's dream was to recreate the landscape of the judicial
system, and to install judges that were either pliable, malleable,
and/or very, very pro-corporation. Essentially that is what he did
in Alabama in the early Nineties. That is what this is all about. If
you control the governor in the states where the justices are not
elected, you control who gets on the supreme court. And that's
essentially what this is all about for Rove ultimately. But to get
those kinds of things done, you have to eliminate the governor
you don't want and install the governor you do want. There are
a lot of corporate interests funding this. So it intersects in that
sense. It's buying the law and restructuring the state judiciary.

Harper's: The Chronicles of Don Siegelman a series of online articles by Scott Horton
Starting June 1, 2007, Scott Horton has been following the strange case of former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman, imprisoned for nine months on a conviction of charges of bribery, conspiracy and mail fraud. Siegelman's case has ramifications far outside of Alabama. It connects to Karl Rove, the Department of Justice under Alberto Gonzales, and to the corruption of our news media by political interests.
Horton's research is ongoing. You can read more of it here.
