Kilborn said the defense raised three key issues and at least one
was of interest to the appellate judges: Was the burden of proof met
for a campaign contribution to be considered a bribe? Had the statute
of limitations expired? Was there adequate evidence to convict
Siegelman of obstruction of justice? Defense lawyers also are
expected to question whether accusations of juror misconduct were
adequately investigated.

"Campaign contributions are different than any other corruption
case," Leach said, and they require a higher burden of proof.
