    Democratic Congressman Artur Davis
The Word is out at the B'ham News: SLIME ARTUR DAVIS! What is his
    crime?

The Birmingham News is committed to finding corruption in the
office of Artur Davis. What is Artur Davis' crime? The Birmingham
News writer Brett Blackledge answers that question in his first
attack on Davis: Congressman Artur Davis is one of the few
elected Alabama Democrats publicly joining Siegelman in
questioning his prosecution and calling for a congressional
review of the case.[1] In fact he is more than just one of a group
of democrats publicly questioning the Siegelman prosecution, he
is leading the charge for an investigation.

U.S. Rep. Davis wrote a letter Friday, July 13, 2007 to the
chairman of the Judiciary Committee, U.S. Rep. John Conyers.
Davis asked Conyers to include the Siegelman case in the
committee's investigation of allegations of selective prosecution
by the Justice Department. Davis is a member of the Judiciary
    Committee.

Furthermore, Davis is demonstrating a considerable talent for
interrogation. The Alablawg sings Davis' praises for his
questioning of Monica Goodling concerning Alberto Gonzoles. [3]
His astute questioning of Gonzoles in May 2007 was broadcast
    on CNN/ YouTube. [4]

Davis was born in Montgomery, Alabama, and was raised by his
mother and grandmother. He graduated magna cum laude from
Harvard University in 1990 and cum laude from Harvard Law
School before returning to Alabama. At HLS, he was also the
recipient of the Best Oralist Award in the esteemed Ames Moot
    Competition.

After working as an intern at the Southern Poverty Law Center
and then as a civil rights lawyer, he served as an assistant
    United States Attorney.

In 2000, he ran for the House in the Democratic primary against
10-year incumbent Earl F. Hilliard. Davis lost the 2000 election
58%-34%. In 2002 he ran again defeating Hilliard narrowly in the
primary, which required a runoff in June. However, he had no
trouble winning the election in November.

He easily won again in 2004. In the new Democratically
controlled 110th Congress, Davis has been assigned to the
Committee on Ways and Means. In January 2007, Davis said
that he was still interested in running on a statewide ticket in
2010, either for Governor, or for Senate if Richard Shelby elects
    to retire.[5]
