Young Jr., a lobbyist and landfill developer, told a group of

prosecutors and investigators on May 8, 2002 he paid tens of

thousands of dollars in apparently illegal campaign contributions

to big names in Alabama Republican politics. Young said that

among the receivers of the contributions were Jeff Sessions, the

state’s former attorney general

believed that Terry Butts had a conflict of

interest in representing

Scrushy and prevented Scrushy from

having fair legal representation.
