An Emergency in Alabama
Phil Smith of Report from Birmingham
....As of Veterans Day, 2007, it has been about four and a half
months since Don Siegelman and Richard Scrushy were hauled off to
prison, and it has been about four months since emergency appeals
were filed on their behalf, appeals that could free them while they
await disposition of the appellate process that could take up to two
years.
In the early evening of June 28, 2007, after a three-day sentencing
hearing, Judge Fuller pronounced the sentences on Siegelman and
Scrushy and they were hustled out the door and shackled before
they could even kiss their wives goodbye. ....

Siegelman Update: The Curious Case of the
Missing Transcript
by Scott Horton with Pacific Free Press
.....Now we learn from the Associated Press notes that Governor
Siegelman’s appeal to the Eleventh Circuit is being held up because
there is no transcript.
.....Whose fault is this? The answer to that question is simple: Judge
Fuller. Under Canon 3 of the Code of Judicial Conduct, a judge is
required to promptly dispose of the business before the court, and
this includes an obligation to insure that a transcript is promptly
prepared in any case in which a transcript is needed (as is the case
with an appeal)....Judge Fuller, however, has now engaged in
systematic conduct designed to obstruct the right of the defendants
to take a timely appeal from his decisions....

Rove Blasts Bloggers
Ari Melber of the Huffington Post
Karl Rove ripped into liberal bloggers at a web politics conference
this week, assailing the "angry kooks" on the "nutty fringe of political
life" who have seized "inexpensive and easily accessible" platforms to
upend public debate.... Apparently blogs affiliated with the liberal
netroots are the problem:
My point is not that liberals swear publicly more often than
conservatives. That may be true, but that's not my point [...] It is that
the netroots often argue from anger rather than reason, and too
often, their object is personal release, not political persuasion.
Several people have pointed out the blatant hypocrisy here. Rove is
famous for a political career built on the most vitriolic, angry and
immoral approach to public affairs....
