Siegelman: kicking the can down the road
Tuscaloosa News.com
According to sources, the DOJ responded to the 2006 FOIA request
that no such documents existed. Then, within 72 hours, the DOJ said
they did, indeed, have documents, 504 of them, in fact. But they still
refused to release them to the former governor's attorneys.
None of this is likely to do Siegelman much good in his appeal, but
the withheld documents are likely to play a role in the hearings into
the Siegelman case the U.S. House Judiciary Committee is planning
for next month.
