Dr. Bobo acquitted; federal prosecutors 0-3 in
Medicaid case
Associated Press
This is the case that started it all. The first news article about this
case appeared in 1999. Bobo and Siegelman were awarded
separate trials and Siegelman’s case was dismissed in '04 for lack of
evidence.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - William Stewart, a political scientist at the
University of Alabama and a longtime observer of state politics, said
the verdict helps those who claim Republican prosecutors have set
their sights on Democratic politicians and those associated with them.
"That will add fuel to former Gov. Siegelman's charge that there was
a political vendetta against him," he said.

Siegelman compares federal investigation of him
to Watergate
By Bob Johnson Associated Press
Siegelman, in a handwritten letter to The Associated Press received Monday,
said he believes former presidential aide Karl Rove was behind the federal
investigation.
"I am also encouraged by The Congressional inquiry and upcoming
investigation which should prove the political involvement and establish this
Alabama case as the 'Watergate of 2008,'" Siegelman wrote.
Responding to questions in a letter sent by AP to Siegelman at the federal
prison in Oakdale, La., the veteran political figure said, "You asked how I'm
doing? I'm fine! My spirits have been uplifted because of my friends' prayers,
letters and action. I am blessed and I give thanks to God many times each day."
