....But the real show-stopper in the Riley-Blackledge story is the
suggestion that Artur Davis claimed “the governor of Alabama went
to Washington, met with the Justice Department, convinced them to
put the resources into a conspiracy…” Davis, of course, neither said
nor insinuated any such thing at any point during the hearing. So
what leads Riley to say this? I have a theory. It’s because Riley
knows that he did travel to Washington and pursue using the Justice
Department as a cat’s paw to secure his own hold on the
Montgomery statehouse....

It is not often that the Chairman of one political party has praise for a
member of another party, but, at one point, I actually thought highly
of Congressman Artur Davis....
But in a congressional hearing held this week, he showed his true
colors — that of a partisan who will say anything and do anything to
gain the attention of the media and the liberal left. He showed that he
is willing to sell his soul for political gain.

....Surprising to Hubbard, no doubt, is the fact that the partisan drift
of the Justice Department is as disturbing to many Republicans as it
is to Democrats.
Former U.S. Attorney General Richard Thornburg, a Republican who
served under President Reagan and the first President Bush, is
upset....
If critics such as Hubbard had their way, we wouldn’t even be talking
about any of this. Of course, when Congress was under GOP control,
we didn’t.
