State Representative's Office Raided
Doc's Political Parlor
In the latest chapter of the 2-year college saga, federal agents raided
Rep. Todd Greeson’s office at Northeast Alabama Community College
this week while he was in Montgomery, according to legislative
insiders. According to the circulating story, his hard drive was taken,
and co-workers were served with subpoenas.
He has not been arrested which leads to the speculation that he has
not been indicted.
Some Republicans had heard from the highest levels that the
investigation into the 2-year college program would touch at least one
of the two Republican legislators employed by two year colleges.
Greeson (of Ider) is one, the other is Rep. Blaine Galliher who is
employed by Gadsden State Community College.
Eleven Democrats are employed by 2-year colleges. The observation
accompanying every version of the story heard here is that the
investigation had to touch a Republican to appear bi-partisan.

No Time for Rest in the War on Teachers
by Scott Horton of Harper's
In Alabama, as we have noted, the public has been told that it faces a
grave menace. No, it’s not crack dealers, organized crime, a drought,
or even the failure of the Crimson Tide to find a coach worthy of the
legacy of Paul Bear Bryant. In the now-top-this absurdity of Alabama’s
Koolaid-dispensing media, the menace that imperils the very
existence of the state consists of corrupt school teachers and junior
college personnel. Of course what this is all really about is something
different. It’s all about the Republican Party’s campaign to take control
of the Alabama state legislature, in which 11 Democrats hold
significant positions in junior colleges and a still greater number hold
a minor relationship.

Did Siegelman Connection Lead to
Conviction (for Rev. Clark)?
by Roger Shuler of Legal Schnauzer
Clarke said he believes he was prosecuted because of his friendship
with former Gov. Don Siegelman, who is serving a prison sentence
after he was convicted on seven corruption-related counts by a
federal jury in Montgomery in 2006.
....I must admit that, had I read this story about a year ago, I probably
would have thought that Clarke was a crook dealing in sour grapes as
he heads to the big house. But after studying the Siegelman case in
Alabama and the Paul Minor case in Mississippi, and experiencing
corruption in our justice system firsthand, I take folks like Rev. Clarke
much more seriously now.
....Also, this case makes you wonder about the number of African-
American Democrats who have been targeted by U.S. Attorney Alice
Martin. It gets hard to keep up with them all--Rev. Clarke, Chris
McNair, Jeff Germany, probably Larry Langford . . .

Will Queen Alice Sacrifice a Republican?
by Roger Shuler of Legal Schnauzer
...Well, looks like Queen Alice has found her man. Doc's Political
Parlor is reporting that the office of Alabama Rep. Todd Greeson (R-
Ider) was raided this week by federal agents. Greeson works at
Northeast Alabama Community College, and it looks like he is
becoming part of the investigation into Alabama's two-year college
system.
How did Greeson get on the wrong side of the Republican power
structure in Alabama? The following Associated Press story from
2005 provides plenty of insight:
Republican lawmakers threaten to censure GOP
member
By BOB JOHNSON, Associated Press Writer
MONTGOMERY, Ala.--Leaders of the House Republican
Caucus have threatened to censure a Republican lawmaker
who had said he planned to vote with Democrats on a
procedural vote that GOP members had hoped to use to block
consideration of a funding bill.

Bush appointed US Attorney who was referred to in a sworn statement as one of Bill Canary's "girls" who would "take care" of Siegelman.
She was politicallly mentored by Hickman Ewing, known as Kenneth Starr's dark side.
