Governor Don Siegelman Moved to Texas
By Glynn Wilson of the Locust Fork Journal
Former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman was moved from a federal
prison in Atlanta, Georgia late Tuesday night to Texarkana, Texas,
sources say.
The Bureau of Prisons says while they try to designate prisoners to
within 500 miles of their home and keep them in their home region,
but apparently that doesn’t apply to Siegelman. He was moved out of
the official Southeast prison region.
The best way to get information on Siegelman is the Website for the
Bureau of Prisons (bop.gov) by using Siegelman's inmate number:

Update on Siegelman
By Scott Horton at Harper's
More DOJ Malicious Mischief ; B'ham News does damage control for
the GOP
Congress prepares for hearings which will look into the White House-
directed vendetta that resulted in the prosecution and conviction of
former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman, the Department of Justice
is about to announce a decision to move Gov. Siegelman from the
Georgia facility where he is now being held to another in Texarkana,
on the Texas-Arkansas frontier.
Now it appears the News is engaged in damage control. It knows this
whole house of cards, which it constructed hand in glove with the
prosecutors, is about to come tumbling down. In the end, this affair
will have to be viewed as much as a failing of the press in Alabama—
which owed Alabamians a duty to serve as good civic watchdogs—as
of the corruption of the machinery of justice. The wheels of justice
ground slowly, and they ground fine, as Dickens said. But often
enough justice is being ground, rather than being done. Against that
we must be on our guard.

Dana Jill Simpson Stands By Affidavit
By Laura McGann at TPMmuckraker
Simpson is standing by the affidavit she signed in May. She also
raises new allegations of questionable -- and possibly illegal --
political machinations in Alabama.
The key points in Dana Jill Simpson's sworn statement have not been
explicitly disproven, though they've been artfully denied by some. Not
only has Simpson faced criticism in the Alabama press, but she's
been attacked by some of the GOP operatives whom she accused of
discussing ginning up a criminal investigation of Siegelman to get him
to concede the 2002 election. Simpson hit back today at her
detractors in a public statement available here. Siegelman was
convicted of bribery in June 2006 and sentenced to seven years in
prison.

Congressman turns attention to Siegelman case
posted by Sue Sturgis at 2:41 PM to Facing South
Last night former Democratic Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman was
moved from an Atlanta penitentiary to a new prison location that's not
yet been undisclosed.
Meanwhile, his case has gone to Washington
Rep. Artur Davis (D-Ala.), a former federal prosecutor, recently sent
a letter to House Judiciary Chair Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.) raising
concerns about Siegelman's prosecution. The letter called the case
against Siegelman "unusually weak," with only one witness
corroborating bribery charges with second-hand information. It also
noted the claims made by Republican lawyer Dana Jill Simpson that
Karl Rove played a role in the investigation.
