House panel looks at role of politics
Mary Orndorff Birmingham News Washington correspondent
[Jill Simpson Attorney Priscilla] Duncan said [House Judiciary]
committee staff talked to Simpson for more than four hours by phone
several days ago. She'll be answering questions in person next
Friday, from one member of the Republican staff and one member of
the Democratic staff.
The interview will be transcribed but the decision on whether it will be
released publicly will be made later by Democratic and Republican
leaders of the committee and Duncan, Duncan said.

Jill Simpson to Testify in Washington
Doc's Political Parlor
One objection raised about Simpson’s credibility was that her original
allegation connecting Karl Rove to a federal investigation of
Siegelman came in an affidavit given out of state and not filed in any
court. Her testimony under oath to members of the House Judiciary
Committee raises the stakes a bit.

U.S. Attorneys Scandal–Milwaukee
By Scott Horton Harper's
At present the House Judiciary Committee has picked two cases for
closer scrutiny. Both are cases in which the taletell signs of political
manipulation can be found right at the surface. And, in an amazing
comment on the state of justice in America today, both produced
convictions of clearly innocent defendants. They are the corruption
prosecutions of Georgia Thompson in Wisconsin and Don Siegelman
in Alabama. So far, the Justice Department has complied to an extent
with the Committee’s document production demands respecting the
Thompson case, but is now one month and counting past due on
Siegelman.
